Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Certified Medical Dosimetrist or Board Eligible professional to produce and evaluate radiation therapy plans for oncology patients. You will contour, register images, optimize plans, and consult with radiation oncologists to select the best plan.

You may assist with simulations, supervise therapists, and participate in QA as part of a multidisciplinary team. This role may involve remote planning support and travel to different departments as needed, with duties

Qualifications

• CMD certification or eligibility required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Science or Medical Dosimetry is required.
• Typically one year of experience in the field.

Responsibilities

• Produce treatment plans for radiation oncology patients.
• Proficient with treatment planning functions including contouring, image registration, plan optimization and evaluation.
• Assist simulator staff with difficult patient setups.
• Create treatment plans that meet or exceed physician dosimetric parameters.
• Consult with the radiation oncologist to select the best plan.
• Review treatment parameters with physician for plan approval and flag any deviations.
• Supervise radiation therapists in plan implementation (bolus, immobilization, wedges, field arrangement).
• Perform quality assurance checks on treatment course and planning processes.
• Provide remote planning support and travel to multiple departments as needed.
• Maintain daily billing for planning services.

What You'll Do

• Production of acceptable treatment plans for radiation oncology patients.
  • Proficient with functions of the treatment planning system including, but not limited to, contouring, image registration, plan optimization and plan evaluation.
  • Assist simulator technologist with difficult patient set ups.
  • Create treatment plans which fulfill the needs of the radiation oncologist. Ensure treatment plans minimally meet but ideally exceed physician dosimetric parameters.
  • Consult with the radiation oncologist in the selection of the best plan.
  • Review treatment parameters with physician for plan approval. Bring to physician attention and note any parameters that fall outside of expected treatment guidelines.
  • Supervise the radiation therapists in implementation of the selected treatment plan (correct use of bolus, immobilization, wedges and field arrangement).
• Quality assurance checks on the treatment course of radiation oncology patients.
  • Proficient with functions of the record and verify system including, but not limited to, importing and exporting of treatment plans and verification that treatment plan complies with the intended treatment course. Inform physicists of unusual errors or messages.
  • Verify all necessary patient documentation related to treatment planning is complete.
  • Actively participate in weekly chart rounds.
• Participate in continuous process improvement meetings and projects
• Provide remote treatment planning support and travel to multiple radiation oncology departments when needed.
• Maintain daily billing for billable physics and treatment planning services.
  

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

• Must follow safety precautions in use of linear accelerators. Radiation Safety precautions must be followed per IEMA regulations and Hospital policies.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
• Exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical and radiation hazards.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job
