Job summary

Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is seeking a Dorm Director for the Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton. The role oversees residential staff, schedules, records, and student welfare, including medical coordination and crisis response.

Must ensure safety and effective group living within the dormitory setting. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, CPR and CPI certification or willingness to obtain, and strong ASL skills (Advanced).

Dorm Director
Location

Missouri School for the Deaf (MSD), 505 E. 5th St., Fulton, MO 65251

Annual Salary

$41,760 annually with a $3,423.84 annual shift differential (School-term position, based on 214 working school days)

Hours

The incumbent must have the ability to perform the essential functions below either with or without reasonable accommodations .

Essential Functions
  • Plans work schedules and maintains records of staff.
  • Responsible for the communication of standards and practices to residential staff.
  • Conducts staffing for residential personnel.
  • Evaluates residential staff based on observations and job performance.
  • Supervises students, including room assignments, record maintenance, coordination of medical care and out-of-school recreation programs.
  • Supervises staff in residential and other areas throughout the campus as needed or assigned.
  • Assists students with making arrangements for trips to their homes or on field trips.
  • Maintains records and assists in the administration of student bank accounts.
  • Evaluates, advises, and disciplines students, in collaboration with parents, staff, administration, and school and resource center personnel.
  • Manages/organizes dormitory, orders supplies/equipment, reports deficiencies in inventory.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating pre-service and in-service training.
  • Communicates with parents, assists in the planning of extracurricular activities, transportation for such activities.
  • Answers residential halls' incoming telephone calls, initiates outgoing telephone calls to students' families, and provides a constant source of contact for students' parents.
  • Conducts regular meetings with students to communicate standards and practices of residential programs, provides training on topics related to student’s development, manages residence hall council and resolves issues related to group living.
  • Perform Crisis Intervention as needed in accord with MSD policy.
  • In order to ensure student safety, you must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, walk distances between buildings on campus at a pace that allows you to keep up with the students to actively monitor them, have the ability to sit, stand, crouch, kneel, and perform physical tasks as needed to assist students in routine and crisis situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills
  • Thorough knowledge of child development and Deafness.
  • Demonstrated management skills.
  • Good personal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with students, parents, staff and fellow workers.
  • Must meet the required American Sign Language competency level of Advanced.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
  • Must be certified or be willing to obtain and maintain certification in CPR and CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of dormitory experience supervising students in a residential school for the Deaf.
