Job summary

SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is looking for a dedicated development professional to build its first fundraising program. Reporting to the Board, you will design donor engagement, manage campaigns, and cultivate relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual donors to sustain habitat protection.

You'll implement DonorPerfect, coordinate year-end and spring appeals, and collaborate with volunteers and staff to tell the conservation story and expand community support.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or a closely related field or equivalent transferable experience.
  • Strong writing and editing skills across donor appeals, grant narratives, newsletters, and stewardship reports.
  • Excellent verbal communication and public speaking skills, comfortable presenting to donors, board members, and community groups.
  • Familiarity with donor database systems; willingness to become the organizational expert in DonorPerfect.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar).
  • Familiarity with grant writing, grant coordination, or foundation relations.
  • Interest in communications, brand management, and organizational storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a comprehensive donor stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation program for all donor levels.
  • Plan and execute year-end and spring fundraising campaigns, including appeals and acknowledgments.
  • Plan and execute donor cultivation and community events and stewardship gatherings on the preserve.
  • Identify and develop donor acquisition strategies through events, tours, and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the board and ED to steward key donor relationships and provide talking points.
