Job summary

Aflac Columbus is seeking a Domain Architect to shape the enterprise data architecture strategy from the Columbus office with hybrid/remote options. You will align data platforms, governance, and security with business goals, guiding AI-enabled initiatives and cloud-first solutions.

The role requires 8+ years in data architecture or related fields, experience with AWS/Snowflake, and a strong foundation in data modeling and governance. Above-market compensation accompanies extensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of relevant architecture or programming experience.
  • Experience delivering solutions on AWS and Snowflake.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data architecture governance and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the enterprise data architecture roadmap aligned to strategy and AI initiatives.
  • Design and govern data architecture including data warehouses, lakes, lakehouse, streaming platforms and cloud-native data services.
  • Govern data products to ensure data assets are discoverable, reusable, interoperable and aligned to business capabilities.
  • Develop data models, metadata, and governance practices for operational, analytical and AI/ML use cases.
  • Architect data integration patterns and platforms for operational, analytical and AI workloads.
  • Lead data architecture governance including reference architecture, reviews, standards and exception management.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align data architecture with business objectives and enterprise standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend data technologies balancing value, risk and cost.
  • Ensure data security, privacy, regulatory compliance, resiliency and disaster recovery in designs.
  • Performs other duties as required

Salary Range: $140,000 - $200,000

Depending on your location within the continental US, this role may be hybrid or remote.

  • If you live within 50 miles of the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be hybrid. This means you will be expected to work in the office for at least 60% of the work week. You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership.
  • If you live more than 50 miles from the Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA or Columbia, SC, this role will be remote. This means you will be expected to work from your home, within the continental US. If the role is remote, there may be occasions that you are requested to come to the office based on business need. Any requests to come to the office would be communicated with you in advance.

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field.
  • Ten or more years of related relevant data architecture work experience in healthcare or insurance industry.
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering complex solutions on AWS and Snowflake platforms.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the enterprise data architecture roadmap, aligning capabilities and investments with business strategy, AI initiatives, and enterprise technology objectives.
  • Design and govern enterprise data architecture, including data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouse architecture, streaming platforms, and cloud-native data services.
  • Design and govern enterprise data products, ensuring data assets are discoverable, reusable, interoperable, and aligned to business capabilities and domain ownership models.
  • Develop and govern data models, standards, metadata, and data governance practices that support operational, analytical, and AI/ML use cases.
  • Architect data integration patterns and data platforms that support operational, analytical, and AI-driven workloads.
  • Lead data architecture governance, including reference architecture, architectural reviews, technology standards, and exception management.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, product teams, engineers, and enterprise architects to align data architecture with business objectives and enterprise standards.
  • Evaluate and recommend data technologies, platforms, and architectural approaches to balance business value, risk, cost, and long-term sustainability.
  • Ensure data security, privacy, regulatory compliance, resiliency, and disaster recovery requirements are incorporated into architectural designs.

Total Rewards

The salary range for this job is $140,000 - $200,000. This range is specific to the job and salary offers consider a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and peer compensation. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.

At Aflac, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role to allow for future and continued salary growth, and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.

In addition to the base salary, we offer an array of benefits to meet your needs including medical, dental, and vision coverage, prescription drug coverage, health care flexible spending, dependent care flexible spending, Aflac supplemental policies (Accident, Cancer, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity offered at no costs to employee), 401(k) plans, annual bonuses, and an opportunity to purchase company stock.
