Job summary

JM Pet Resort & Veterinary Clinic is seeking a dedicated Dog Trainer to conduct science-based positive reinforcement training for dogs of all ages. The role includes private sessions, group classes, behavior evaluations, and teaching in a group setting to help clients build trust with their pets.

Trainers will deliver puppies through advanced classes, maintain schedules, and ensure safe handling. Candidates should have at least 2 years of professional experience and a passion for humane training

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional dog training experience required.
• Strong dog handling skills using positive reinforcement techniques.
• Strong understanding of canine body language.
• Outstanding interpersonal communication skills.
• Passionate about animal welfare; treats all animals with compassion and kindness.

Responsibilities

• Leads multi-week group and private classes for puppies and adult dogs.
• Provides in-home private lessons for clients requiring one-on-one training and creates individualized training plans.
• Combines positive reinforcement command, behavior, socialization and wellness into their classes.
• Prepares certificates of graduation and surveys to distribute upon completion of each group session.
• Creates and maintains a calendar of all training classes, at least 3 months in advance.
• Follows safe practices and procedures when introducing dogs.
• Conducts customer consultations and satisfaction.
• Positively interacts with pet parents in-person, via email, text and phone.
• Assist with evacuation of all animals if an emergency occurs.

As skilled Dog Trainers we are committed to our methodology and make a connection with each of their clients both two and four-legged. These relationships are built on trust and support using humane relationship-based techniques. JM Pet Resort & Veterinary Clinic Dog Trainers should be comfortable with offering private sessions, behavior evaluations and teaching in a group setting. Our trainers teach puppies through advanced classes and handle all behavior issues.

• Must be able to learn and efficiently use company software

Physical Demands

• Position requires a person to be both indoors and outdoors regardless of the weather
• Majority of the day is spent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly, up to 100 pounds with assist

Working Conditions

• Potential exposure to dog and cat bites
• Potential exposure to contagious disease or infection
• Exposure to contaminants
• Exposure to extreme weather (i.e. heat and cold)
• Must work around pet hair and dander
