Job summary

Spectrum 360 A NJ Non Profit Corp. seeks a Head Start classroom supervisor to coordinate developmentally appropriate activities for preschoolers in alignment with Head Start standards, DOE requirements and licensing regulations.

You will submit weekly lesson plans to the Education Manager, observe and document growth, and ensure services for children with special needs while maintaining safety and records. A car is required daily.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in early childhood education or equivalent.
• Must meet NJ/PA licensing regulations.
• Must have New Jersey’s P-3 certification: CE, CEA, or Standard Cert.
• Must have a car available on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for preschool children per Head Start, DOE requirements and licensing.
• Submit weekly curriculum-based lesson plans to the Site Director and Education Manager/Coordinator.
• Observe, assess, screen, and document each child’s growth; maintain records.
• Ensure services for children with special needs are provided.
• Maintain center safety and report accidents or health concerns.
• Prepare and maintain records and monthly reports for Parent Center Committee.
• Plan parent involvement activities and monthly planning sessions.
• Visit homes at least twice per program year; conduct two parent/teacher conferences.
• Attend trainings; assist in administrative duties and on-site staff development.
• Carry out other Head Start tasks as delegated.

Job description

JOB FUNCTION: Responsible for the supervision and coordination of assigned classroom; ensuring that it meets with Head Start Performance Standards, DOE Requirements and Licensing Regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Plan and implement activities in an individual and developmentally appropriate manner for pre-school children in keeping with the philosophy and Performance Standards of Head Start, DOE requirements and the licensing requirements of New Jersey. Submit to the Child/Family Site Director and the Education Manager/Coordinator a curriculum-based lesson plan for the classroom each week.

1. Observe, assess, screen, and document each child's growth and development in your class. Plan activities to meet the needs of individual children. Maintain accurate records in an individual folder and database for each child.

1. Ensure that the process of providing service to children with special needs in the center is implemented.

1. Ensures the safety of all children by participating in monitoring of center, implementation of child safety procedures, reporting accidents, reporting child abuse or neglect, and reporting any child health/safety concern to supervisor

1. Prepare and maintain appropriate records and reports. This may include maintaining classroom sign-in/out sheet and prepare a monthly report as requested by the Parent Center Committee.

1. Plan activities involving parents in the classroom and include activities which can be implemented in the home. Involve the Parent Committee or individual parents in educational planning sessions at least once a month.

1. Visit the home of each child at least two (2) times within the program year. Prepare and conduct two (2) parent/teacher conferences within the program year.

1. Attend training sessions and workshops provided by the program as well as the district.

1. Assist in carrying out administrative duties as delegated by Child/Family Site Director, or Education Coordinator/Manager. This may include providing on-site training to Center staff members as requested by management and completing individual conferences with each staff member that interacts with the classroom.

1. Any other Head Start task as delegated by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must have a baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education or equivalent.
2. Must meet the qualification requirements set forth in NJ/PA licensing regulations
3. Must have New Jersey's P-3 certification: CE, CEA, or Standard Cert
4. Must have car available on a daily basis.
