Job summary

XPO Logistics Freight Inc. is seeking a Dockworker (Hostler) to move trailers around the facility, operate a hostler and forklift, and load freight as needed. The role requires mobility, safety awareness, and the ability to work varied shifts, including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Move trailers throughout the property using motorized and manual equipment (pallet jack, forklift)
• Load freight and unload trailers; operate hostler in all weather
• Ensure safety and adherence to company policies while scanning and tracking shipments
• Walk and stand on loading docks for extended periods; lift objects up to 50 lbs, occasionally over 70 lbs
• Perform duties with attention to detail and efficiency on a fast-paced dock environment

What you’ll need to succeed as a Dockworker (Hostler) at XPO

• Be at least 18 years of age
• A valid driver’s license
• Able to do basic math calculations, with and without a calculator
• To pass a company-paid, post-offer, pre-hire (physical essential functions) test
• Available to work a variety of shifts due to varying freight volumes, including days, evenings, nights and weekends

Preferred qualifications:

• Dock/warehouse experience in the transportation industry
• Forklift experience in a freight/less-than-truckload environment
• Experience loading and unloading trailers
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Desire to succeed with strong attention to detail

What you’ll do on a typical day:

• Move trailers throughout the property
• Use appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including pallet jack and forklift
• Efficiently load freight a minimum of 1 day per week
• Operate a hostler in all types of weather; safely walk and stand for extended periods
• Safely operate heavy equipment, including moving, positioning and connecting/disconnecting a converter dolly with an average weight/pull force of approximately 128 lbs.
• Work in a safe, efficient manner while adhering to company safety policies
• Use mobile handheld devices to scan and track shipments

Dockworker (Hostler)s are required to:

• Lift objects of various shapes, sizes and weights to 50 lbs. frequently and greater than 70 lbs. occasionally
• Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
• Walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
