Job summary

School District of Ashland in Wisconsin seeks a part-time instructional assistant for 5 hours/day (0.625 FTE) to support core subjects with differentiated instruction, in-class or pull-out support, and collaboration with teachers. Responsibilities include small group work, one-to-one academic/behavioral support (math and reading), and using technology in instruction.

Responsibilities

• Support instruction in all core subjects with differentiated instruction.

• Conduct small group instruction and pull-out sessions as needed.
• Offer one-to-one academic or behavioral support focusing on math and reading/language arts.
• Coordinate with school staff and maintain required documentation.
• Extensive mobility and outdoor duty possible.

Job description

• Location: Lake Superior Elementary (Location subject to change at the discretion of the district and student needs.)
• Date Available: 2026-2027 SY

Hours: 5 hours / day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break; Monday-Friday (May change at the discretion of the District.).

FTE: 0.625 FTE School Year Position with the potential for summer hours based on enrollment

This position requires, but is not limited to the following:

• Ability to support instruction in all core subject areas utilizing effective strategies for differentiating instruction utilizing knowledge of curriculum based standards.
  • In class support sitting with identified students clarifying, redirecting, encouraging students.
  • Small group instruction working with identified students clarifying, redirecting, encouraging students—in class or pull out.
  • Providing one-to-one academic and/or behavioral support for students identified as needing tier II or tier III intervention. Academic support is focused on math and reading/language arts instruction.
• Flexibility and willingness to work with students utilizing a multi-sensory approach to increase students' social, emotional, and academic successes.
• Experience and/or training in reading and mathematics learning strategies.
• Ability to use evidence-based classroom management strategies and techniques.
• Ability to use evidence-based individual behavior management strategies and techniques.
• Ability to meet students' social and emotional needs utilizing non violent crisis intervention techniques.
• Ability to effectively use and integrate technology in the instructional support setting.
• Ability to prepare required documentation in a timely manner.
• Ability to coordinate and collaborate with other adults within the school.
• Extensive mobility and willingness to perform job duties outdoors.

Required Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Have completed high school or its equivalent, as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
• Have at least 3-6 months of past experience in an early childhood setting.
• Have an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education; OR a Bachelor's Degree with two courses for credit in Early Childhood Education (is preferred, but not required); OR a registry certificate indicating you are qualified as a child care teacher.

Level 9 Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working positively with elementary school students.
• Knowledge and understanding of Play Based Instruction.
• Experience in implementing effective learning and behavior interventions.
