Job summary

BART is seeking a highly skilled Composite Vehicle Maintainer (DMU) to support its Diesel Multiple Unit fleet, ensuring reliability, safety, and availability. The role involves complex preventive, corrective, and modification maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems across DMU trains.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
  • Apprenticeship in a mechanical trade or 1 year journey-level experience in mechanical, electrical, and electronic diagnostic maintenance on large vehicles or equipment.
  • Ability to obtain Class B DMV license and DMU certification within probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular maintenance inspections, servicing, troubleshooting and repairs on DMU vehicles and subsystems per manufacturer specs and CPUC regulations.
  • Inspect and repair DMU subsystems including diesel engines, traction motors, brakes, HVAC, doors, and safety systems.
  • Maintain shop facilities and equipment to ensure a safe, clean work environment; document work performed and parts used.
  • Operate revenue DMU vehicles for maintenance and testing within regulatory limits and prepare trains for revenue service.
  • Provide on-call duties for vehicle maintenance and respond to emergencies as assigned.
