This is instructional support work in providing assistance to teachers in the daily management and instruction of students. An employee in this class is responsible for performing clerical and instructional tasks to relieve teachers of routine activities and to help carry out daily classroom activities. The work involves observing and reporting on the behavior and learning of students, and may be assigned to a pre-kindergarten, kindergarten or special classroom or a computer learning center/lab, closely monitoring the needs of children including basic personal needs, physical help and occasional restraint. All important aspects of the work are subject to detailed and specific procedures which employees follow closely.
General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching; ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports; ability to deal effectively with students and teachers; skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment; ability to operate standard office, word and data processing equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and associates.
Required: High School Diploma or GED. The applicant must be fluent in Spanish.
Title I Assistants Only: Must have a minimum of 48 college credits or provide documentation of passing the Paraprofessional Assessment test, or have an Associate's Degree on higher. Some experience working with children.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Frequent sitting, walking, bending, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, and reaching. Occasional standing, stooping, crouching, and kneeling. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds rarely. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid driver's license. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Compensation will be based on job-related creditable years of full-time, verified work experience. The entry-level rate will be awarded at the time of hire. Upon the return of employment verification forms from the candidate's current and previous employers, the rate will be adjusted if creditable full-time experience is confirmed.
