Job summary

D.R. Horton, Inc. is seeking a Division Counsel to support land acquisition, development, and related contracts across the division. The role involves advising on RESPA, FHA/VA compliance, and subdivision issues, with collaboration with title companies and municipalities.

The successful candidate will review homebuyer contracts, assist with litigation coordination, and advise on employment and safety policies while traveling overnight as required.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) required.
  • Must be a licensed attorney in good standing.
  • Five to seven years of experience and/or training.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice related to land acquisition, land use, entitlement, zoning, and development, including reviewing and drafting contracts and documents; liaising with title company, municipalities, and outside counsel.
  • Review and revise homebuyer contract documents and advise on RESPA issues and FHA/VA compliance.
  • Review and revise homeowner association documents and advise on HOA issues; review marketing contracts and programs.
  • Assist in managing division litigation with outside counsel, including document provision and attendance at hearings.
  • Advise the Division Human Resources Manager on employment policies, practices, and safety programs including OSHA.
  • Review and revise subcontractor contract documents and handle disputes.
  • Provide advice regarding employment matters, construction and warranty issues.
  • Handle customer disputes and coordinate with outside counsel as necessary.
  • Contribute to various other division matters and travel overnight as needed.

Education

Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Provide legal advice related to land acquisition, land use, entitlement, zoning, and development, including reviewing and drafting contracts, title and land development documents, and other related documents; working with the title company, municipalities, and special districts; handling closings; consulting with and coordinating with outside counsel

  • Review and revise homebuyer contract documents; advise regarding RESPA issues, FHA/VA compliance and other home sale issues

  • Review and revise homeowner association documents and provide advice on homeowner association issues. Review marketing contract and programs; draft documentation as necessary

  • Assist in managing division litigation, including coordination with outside counsel regarding active and potential litigation matters; the provision of documents and information pertinent to active or potential litigation; attendance at hearings, settlement conferences, and related proceedings

  • Assist and advise the Division Human Resources Manager with manager training regarding employment policies and practices

  • Assist and advise the Division Human Resources Manager regarding safety programs, the review and revision of manual and written policies, and safety issues including OSHA

  • Review and revise subcontractor contract documents, handle disputes

  • Provide advice regarding employment matters and issues

  • Provide advice regarding legal issues in construction and warranty

  • Handle customer disputes; coordinate with outside counsel as necessary

  • Provide advice regarding various other division matters

  • Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company

  • Ability to travel overnight

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience


  • Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.)

  • Five to seven years of experience and/or training

  • Must be a licensed attorney and in good standing with state bar association(s) of which you are a member

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications

  • Proficiency with MS Office and email

  • Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision

  • The noise level is generally moderate


Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior experience in corporate or environmental law

  • Ability to multi-task and attention to detail
