  • Experience recruiting, mentoring, and developing faculty, trainees, and future physician leaders.
  • Qualifications suitable for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor.
  • Additional advanced degrees and demonstrated success leading strategic program growth, service expansion, or academic innovation are highly desirable.

Wayne State University School of Medicine and Wayne Health invite applications and nominations for the position of Chief of the Division of General Medicine, an exceptional leadership opportunity within one of the nation's leading urban academic medical centers.

This role is ideally suited for a visionary academic physician and strategic healthcare leader who is passionate about advancing clinical excellence, fostering faculty success, expanding innovative research, and shaping the future of internal medicine education. As Chief, the successful candidate will lead one of the Department of Internal Medicine's largest and most influential divisions while helping to drive the institution's mission of improving health outcomes through patient care, education, discovery, and community engagement.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Division of General Medicine is the second-largest division within the Department of Internal Medicine and is home to a diverse and collaborative community of physicians, advanced practice providers, scientists, researchers, educators, and professional staff. The Division encompasses the Sections of Medicine/Pediatrics and the Academic Hospitalist Program and maintains a strong reputation for excellence in clinical care, education, health services research, prevention, and healthcare delivery innovation.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, the Chief will provide strategic, operational, and academic leadership across the Division's clinical, educational, and research missions. The successful candidate will partner closely with departmental and health system leadership to expand programs, enhance operational integration, strengthen faculty development, and advance a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
