Job summary

Shedd Aquarium is seeking an Assistant Dive Safety Officer to support safe diving operations in the aquarium and in the field. You will maintain dive facilities and equipment, assist with training, and ensure compliance with regulations and AAUS standards.

The role reports to the Director of Dive Operations and is onsite in Chicago, IL. The position emphasizes hands-on dive activities (32–36 hours per week) and program support (4–8 hours per week), requiring a Bachelor's in a related field and

Qualifications

• Degree in marine biology, zoology, animal science, or related field or equivalent knowledge.
• Experience in scientific diving, aquarium operations, or animal care preferred.
• Knowledge of AAUS/OSHA/AZA regulations or ability to learn quickly.
• Strong teamwork, judgment, and professional communication.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and dive management software.

Responsibilities

• Assist with safe Aquarium and field diving operations and policies.
• Maintain dive facilities, equipment, and records; assist with training.
• Support public interactions and guest education as needed.
• Act as tender or DPIC as qualified and assigned.
• Participate in emergency drills and readiness of equipment.
• Collaborate with departments to meet dive operational needs.
