Job summary

ERIE’s 24-week District Sales Manager Trainee Program prepares you for a District Sales Manager role. You will learn sales management, risk management, agency operations and leadership while supporting Independent Agents.

Following training, you’ll manage a territory of about 25 Independent Agencies, with relocation assistance and a company vehicle provided. This role requires frequent travel within your assigned region.

Position may be eligible for an annual bonus payment.

Position Summary
Build Your Career as a District Sales Manager

ERIE’s 24-week District Sales Manager Trainee Program is an intensive development experience designed to prepare you for success as a District Sales Manager (DSM).

You’ll work alongside experienced Sales leaders and Independent Agents while building skills in sales management, risk management, agency operations, leadership and relationship management.

Following successful completion of the program, you’ll transition into a DSM role and manage a territory of approximately 25 Independent Agencies.

As a DSM, You Will
  • Coach and support Independent Agents in achieving business goals
  • Manage territory performance across sales, underwriting, profitability and agency management
  • Recruit, train and develop new Agents
  • Serve as a trusted business partner and ERIE product resource
Relocation Is Required

Following successful completion of training, ERIE will assign you to a territory based on business needs. You will be required to relocate to and reside within your assigned territory.

ERIE provides comprehensive relocation assistance and transition support. Our operating footprint includes: IL, IN, KY, MD, NC, NY, OH, PA, TN, VA, Washington D.C., WV and WI.

Once assigned, you’ll work remotely from your territory and will be provided a company vehicle and the technology needed to perform your role.

Participates in the company training and development program. Learns and performs the basic responsibilities of field and home office sales, including sales management, risk management administration and branch account operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participates in ERIE's district sales manager training program. Completes assigned projects independently using information and skills learned.
  • Applies product knowledge and acquired skills to assist with operations in assigned Agent offices. Trains Agents on matters pertaining to product knowledge, underwriting Agency operations and sales. Discusses proposed business with Agents and clients and gathers underwriting information used to determine the acceptance or rejection of a risk. Advises clients of coverages necessary to achieve individual insurance goals.
  • Accompanies sales managers, claims and underwriting personnel on Agent visitations, including short-form inspections. Develops productive working relationships with Agents to enhance ERIE's quality growth.
  • Serves as company representative in maintaining favorable Policyholder relationships. Works closely with adjusters and other claims personnel to resolve issues or related matters. Responds to inquiries from Policyholders, Agents and branch office personnel regarding claims matters.
  • Implements sales promotion programs and communicates relevant information to Agents.
  • Inspects prospective and existing risks as directed and prepares reports, including scaled drawings and photographs. Assists in reviewing results of inspection with Policyholders. Explains recommendations regarding hazard reduction, elimination and other loss measures.
  • Attends annual sales conference and Agent education exchange seminars.
  • Attends Life and Property and Casualty licensing school and participates in exams.
  • Completes special projects as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree, required; or
  • Associate’s degree and two years of sales, underwriting, claims or marketing experience, required; or
  • High school diploma or GED and four years of sales, underwriting, claims or marketing experience, required.

Master’s degree preferred.

Additional Experience
  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software required.
  • Willingness to relocate to other offices required.
  • Frequent travel required.
Designations and/or Licenses
  • Completion of insurance designations such as CIC or CPCU preferred.
  • Willingness to pursue insurance designations required.
  • Successful completion of Life and Property/Casualty licensing exams required to complete training program.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
