Job summary

Rep. Eric Sorensen's office in Illinois seeks a creative Press Secretary to craft and promote the Member's messaging. You will work with the Communications Director to develop district-based strategies, manage media relations, and coordinate events both in-person and virtual.

The role requires 2–3 years of communications or political/media experience, strong writing and digital media skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment with flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Two to three years of communications or political/media experience.
• Demonstrated record of establishing relationships with the press.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-visibility office.
• Ability to work flexible hours as required to support the Member's objectives.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the Communications Director to develop a comprehensive, District-based communications strategy to achieve the Member’s legislative and communications priorities.
• Work with the team to build, manage, and execute press events, including in-person and virtual press conferences, tele-townhalls, earned media events, and press interviews.
• Draft remarks, including talking points for the Congressman and team members, memo writing, press releases and advisories, and scripts for short- and long-form videos.
• Collaborate actively with the legislative and District teams to ensure cohesive messaging on constituent services, policy rollouts, and district events.
• Establish and develop productive relationships with in-district and Illinois reporters to successfully pitch and field stories, including supporting the team with rapid response as needed.
• Work in collaboration with senior communications team members in Washington, D.C. on digital content, including drafting, editing, graphics, and videos for social media channels and the website.
