Job summary

Airgas in Oakland, CA is seeking a District Manager to lead and develop the sales teams across branches, with a focus on safety, excellence, and community reliability.

You will drive market presence, optimize resources, and mentor staff while ensuring strong P&L discipline and exceptional customer service in a dynamic gas and welding supplies environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven history of advancing sustainable sales growth and profitability.
  • Experience in B2B sales or sales operations with mentoring and P&L stewardship.
  • At least 5 years in leadership, mentoring teams, and driving results.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, focused on alignment and organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word; data entry and reporting ability.
  • Numerical proficiency for business decisions and analytics.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Comfort with ROI, P&L, balance sheets, and related financial concepts.
  • Physical capability to lift 25-75 lbs; valid driver's license and insured vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support sales teams across branches to achieve safety and performance milestones.
  • Provide diligent P&L stewardship for assigned branches and territory.

  • Optimize margins by executing regional plans while controlling expenses.
  • Develop staff skills through ongoing learning and coaching.
  • Support branch hiring, training, and holistic team management with the Branch Manager.
  • Prepare sales data and forecasts to inform leadership decisions.
  • Coordinate paperwork, inventory, pricing, and profitability for operational health.
  • Ensure a welcoming, safe facility environment and manage personnel matters.

As a District Manager for Airgas, you will be a pioneer in creating a high-performance culture rooted in safety and excellence. We are looking for a supportive mentor who can empower our sales teams to reach their full potential while nurturing a community of safety and reliability. Your role is to advance our market presence by cultivating alignment across branches, optimizing resources, and facilitating a seamless experience for both our associates and our customers.

  • Empower, mentor, and support the sales team to advance toward excellent safety standards and performance milestones.
  • Provide diligent P&L stewardship for the assigned branches and territory, ensuring long-term fiscal health.
  • Cultivate exceptional customer service and product knowledge, ensuring a collaborative approach to problem resolution.
  • Advocate for safety measures through interactive meetings and by ensuring alignment with all safety protocols.
  • Optimize profit margins by implementing strategic plans from the Region and Area, ensuring operating expenses align with collective growth milestones and exceptional customer service.
  • Enhance and sustain the selling skills and product expertise of the staff through continuous learning.
  • Foster professional growth and provide proactive guidance on company policies and customer service excellence.
  • Partner with the Branch Manager in the hiring, training, and holistic management of employees.
  • Support outside sales representatives by preparing insightful sales data and providing thoughtful forecasts for leadership.
  • Coordinate paperwork, inventory, pricing, and profitability to ensure operational health.
  • Facilitate personnel matters and ensure facility upkeep to provide a welcoming and safe environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience (ideally 5+ years in a relevant field).
  • A demonstrated history of advancing sustainable sales success and profitable growth.
  • A proven history of increasing responsibility in a business-to-business sales-related or sales operations position. This includes prior experience mentoring a team and stewardship of a P&L (or comparable experience within the distribution industry involving gases and welding supplies).
  • A proactive approach to leadership, with a history of supporting and mentoring teams for at least 5 years.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on building alignment and staying organized.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft solutions, particularly Excel and Word, and experienced in data entry and order extraction.
  • Numerical proficiency for practical business applications and analytical reporting.
  • Resilience and adaptability to work independently and maintain focus in a dynamic environment.
  • The ability to foster understanding while interacting with diverse teams and personalities.
  • Deeply comfortable with business and accounting concepts including, but not limited to, Return on Investment (ROI), Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, balance sheets, interest and leasing calculations, and margin responsibilities
  • Physical capability to lift 25-75 lbs. as needed to support operations.
  • A valid driver’s license and an insured personal vehicle.
  • Comfortable working in a drug-free environment.
  • Flexibility to adjust your schedule to meet the needs of our customers and the management team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A history of advancing sales growth and achieving consistent year-over-year progress.
  • Experience in the Industrial Gas industry and/or welding is a valuable contribution.
  • Experience in sales team management with a focus on sustainable growth.
  • Public speaking capabilities to represent the brand with confidence.
  • A natural ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.
