Job summary

Sierra Pacific Industries in Sonora, California, seeks a qualified District Forester to manage timberlands in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. You will prepare Timber Harvest Plans, administer contracts, conduct surveys, and collaborate with reforestation efforts.

The successful candidate will work from our Sonora district office and engage with regulators and stakeholders. Preferred candidates hold a California RPF license, knowledge of THP rules, strong communication, GIS and MS Office skills,

Qualifications

• Licensed California Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or eligible to take the exam
• Familiarity with California Forest Practice Rules and THP preparation
• Excellent communication and strong work ethic
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and GIS software
• Able to work independently or in a team
• Valid driver's license and ability to navigate forest roads

Responsibilities

• Prepare Timber Harvest Plans (THPs) with research, field work, mapping and writing
• Administer contracts for field operations (logging, roads, services)
• Conduct botanical, wildlife, archeological, road, and watercourse surveys
• Collaborate on reforestation activities and site preparation
• Interact with state regulatory agencies and diverse groups
• Perform forestry projects in varied weather and terrain
• Hike in remote mountain areas using maps, compass and GPS
• Work effectively both in a team and independently
• Support other district forestry tasks as needed
