Job summary

Greenville Water District is seeking a Transmission and Distribution technician in Greenville, RI to repair and maintain water mains, services, meters and related appurtenances. The role includes meter reading/replacement, Dig Safe duties, and administrative reporting, with a 37.5‑hour week and Teamster 251 benefits.

Responsibilities include water sampling, hydrant/valve work, and maintaining District facilities.

Qualifications

• Class 1 DO license desirable or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• Valid Rhode Island Driver's License.
• Experience in water field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform meter reading, calibration, testing, and backflow tasks.
• Dig Safe: locate and mark underground facilities per regulations.

• Follow instructions and perform routine flushing, valve exercises, hydrant work.
• Water sampling and laboratory testing for safe drinking water.
• Maintain District buildings and grounds; attend trainings as directed.

Job description

Greenville Water District has a Transmission and Distribution position available who will be responsible for both performing the repair and maintenance of water mains, services, meters and other related appurtenances.

Other duties include performing duties related to meter reading and meter replacement. All work is done using good safety practices and in compliance with OSHA, federal & state, and AWWA requirements. This position is in Greenville, RI.

Primary duties include:

• Maintenance of repair water mains, services, hydrants and gate and service valves.
• Installing and reading water meters
• Perform a variety of other duties relating to meter reading, calibration, installation, removing, replacing, testing, repairing, and backflow.
• Dig Safe - Locate and mark company or customer underground water facilities in compliance with Dig Safe regulations. Document as appropriate.
• General Administrative Duties - Accurately and fully complete and return all administrative reports on a timely basis. This includes timesheets, work orders, service records, and inspection reports.
• Ability to follow instruction and perform routine flushing of water mains, exercising valves, maintain/repair or replace hydrants, and normal distribution system maintenance;
• Perform water sampling and laboratory testing in order to provide safe drinking water;
• Maintain District buildings, facilities, grounds and property sites;
• Attend meetings and training sessions as directed;

This a bargaining unit position Teamster 251 with an excellent benefits package.

Respond to emergencies 24 hours on an emergency basis rotating with other District personnel.
