Job summary

  • Requires specialized knowledge through formal training of certifiable aspects of shipping and packing hazardous materials to include refresher training as required with a passing grade required for retention in the position.
  • This position and any future selections from this announcement may be used to fill various shifts located within DLA Distribution Warner Robins, GA.
Qualifications

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort

Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stopping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries weights up to 40 pounds. May handle heavier items with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.

Working Conditions

Work is accomplished both inside and outside of warehouses in all kinds of weather. Work areas may be hot, cold, damp, drafty, dirty, noisy, poorly lit, and /or other adverse working conditions. Frequently exposed to working conditions that or situations that could result in cuts, scrapes, and bruises, falls from ladders, falling material or injury from equipment. May be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and high noise while working in a mechanized work area, or radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes while working in a hazardous materials area. Required to wear protective clothing and equipment when working with hazardous materials.

Drug-Free Workplace Policy

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.

Applicants tentatively selected for employment in testing designated positions will undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Refusal to undergo testing or testing positive for illegal drugs will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and a six-month denial of employment with DLA from the date of the drug test. Employees in drug testing designated positions are subject to random drug testing. A negative drug test result must be received by HR within 30 calendar days after the EOD (i.e., start date). The selectee's inability successfully pass; or refusal to conduct the test may result in: 1) the tentative or FJO being withdrawn during the recruitment process; or 2) subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment. You may be required to sign a "Drug Test Statement of Understanding" if you are selected for this position.

The DLA drug testing panel tests for the following substances: marijuana, cocaine, opiates, heroin, phencyclidine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, fentanyl, norfentanyl, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), and opioids.
