Job summary

Missouri River Energy Services is seeking a highly skilled Lineworker to oversee and perform the operations and maintenance of municipal electric distribution systems under contract. The role requires leadership of a line crew, installation and maintenance of metering/substation equipment, and a strong commitment to safety and reliability.

The successful candidate will operate and maintain distribution assets, manage job priorities, and participate in planning with the Electric Distribution

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; completion of Lineworker Apprenticeship or 1st Class Journey Lineworker.
  • Experience leading a line crew and performing construction/maintenance on overhead and underground lines.
  • Knowledge of electricity fundamentals related to distribution and transmission lines and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, construct, reconstruct, maintain and repair electrical distribution systems and equipment.
  • Maintain inventory, time, and material records for all work performed.
  • Establish work priority schedules and assign daily duties.
  • Operate distribution vehicles and arrange timely maintenance for reliability and safety.
  • Perform operation and maintenance of generating plant systems if present.
  • Install metering equipment and substation systems; assist with testing and calibration of controls.
  • Handle customer meter installations and disconnects as directed.
  • Maintain public outdoor lighting systems.
  • Inspect, monitor and document operations, maintenance and testing of distribution, generation and related equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Electric Distribution Superintendent on near/long-term planning.
  • Serve on-call and respond to outages.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures for a safe work environment.
  • Maintain distribution vehicles, equipment and storage areas.
  • Observe and enforce safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist with recruiting/interviewing; participate in performance reviews.
  • Represent MRES at training seminars and conferences as assigned.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments.

Oversees the day to day activities regarding operations and maintenance of the municipal electric utility distribution systems under contract to MRES in a safe and efficient manner by performing the following duties.

  1. Performs the operation, construction, reconstruction, maintenance and repair of the electrical distribution systems and associated equipment.
  2. Maintains the inventory, time, and material records for all work performed.
  3. Establishes work priority schedules and assigns daily duties.
  4. Operates the electric distribution vehicles and related equipment and arranges for timely maintenance to ensure reliability and safety.
  5. Performs the operation and maintenance of the electric generating plant systems and associated equipment, if present in the community.
  6. Performs installation, of metering equipment and substation systems, and assists with maintenance, testing and calibration of all controls in accordance with established operating and maintenance procedures.
  7. Performs the customer meter installations and disconnects as directed.
  8. Performs the installation and maintenance of the public outdoor lighting systems.
  9. Performs the inspection, monitoring, and documentation of the operations, maintenance and testing of distribution, generation, and associated equipment and facilities as required.
  10. Coordinate with the Electric Distribution Superintendent in the near term and long term planning of distribution system modifications, improvements or extensions as directed.
  11. Serves “On-Call” and responds to call-outs of reported electrical system or service problems.
  12. Performs all work in accordance with all applicable safety policies, programs, procedures, and reporting systems to assure a safe working environment for all personnel and the general public.
  13. Performs general maintenance of the electric distribution vehicles, equipment and storage areas.
  14. Responsible for observing and enforcing all safety rules and regulations.
  15. Assists with the recruiting and interviewing; and, recommends the selection and retention of personnel supervised in accordance with policy.
  16. Periodically reviews and appraises the performance of personnel supervised in accordance with policy.
  17. Represents MRES at training seminars and conferences as assigned.
  18. Keeps abreast of relevant profession, industry, and inter-utility developments.
  19. Coordinates with the Electric Distribution Superintendent in developing the MRES departmental budget.
  20. Assists in developing the city departmental budget and capital improvement requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent and completion of Lineworker Apprenticeship or status as a 1st Class Journey Lineworker. Must have experience leading a line crew and demonstrated experience in performing construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground dead or energized conductors, structures, and equipment. Knowledge of fundamentals of electricity related to the construction, maintenance, and operation of distribution and transmission lines and equipment.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of; Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and health card, first aid certification, competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and pole top rescue.
