Job summary

Pike Engineering in Houston, TX is seeking an entry-level Field Data Technician to support our engineering team with hands-on field data collection for power distribution projects. The role combines office and field work, requiring accurate recording and adherence to standard workflows.

Job description

Position Overview:

This is an entry-level position that supports our Engineering team and reports directly to regional operational leadership. The role includes a combination of office and field work, providing hands-on experience collecting and documenting field data to support the design of safe, reliable, and cost-effective power distribution projects. Candidates should be comfortable learning field data collection tools and technologies, following company and client workflows and procedures, accurately recording information, and developing a foundational understanding of utility infrastructure and project requirements.

Essential Functions:
  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines outlined in the Pike Engineering Safety Manual
  • Collect, document, and organize field data using paper drawings, forms, and electronic data collection tools as directed
  • Assist in identifying and documenting utility assets in the field with guidance from more experienced team members
  • Learn and effectively use field technologies such as GPS units, laser measurement tools, and digital cameras
  • Accurately measure and record field conditions, equipment, and dimensions in accordance with project requirements
  • Ensure collected data is clear, complete, and properly formatted for use by design and engineering teams
  • Support team productivity by meeting assigned production goals and project deadlines
  • Work collaboratively with senior technicians or designers in a field support capacity
  • Perform field work in varying environments, including travel and occasional overnight assignments
  • Participate with storm restoration or emergency response efforts as required
Minimum Requirements:
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Valid driver's license
Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Be able and comfortable working in an outside environment for extended periods of time.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently.
  • Position requires regular operation of a vehicle for business purposes.
Physical Demands:

This role involves primarily office-based work with regular sitting and frequent use of hands for computer and tool handling, and talking and hearing throughout the day. The position also includes occasional standing, walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, and stooping or kneeling during field activities. We may require employees to lift up to 10 pounds regularly. The job also requires visual abilities, including close and distance vision, color distinction, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Work Environment:

Your work will involve a mix of office and field work.
