Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in Oahu, Hawaii. You will lead a team of engineers to develop electrical distribution work packages from 4kV to 138kV and coordinate with clients to ensure high quality design and construction outputs.

You will supervise day-to-day activities, provide technical guidance on calculations, QA/QC reviews, and training for junior staff while traveling 15–25% for site and client meetings.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • ABET-accredited BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial engineering.
  • Experience with NESC standards, MicroStation/AutoCAD, and Bluebeam/Adobe.
  • Proven design experience for OH, UG, or URD distribution systems.
  • GIS experience with ESRI is a plus.
  • Knowledge of O-Calc and SAG10 required; BOUD/Spida-Calc a plus.
  • MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to review other engineers' designs for errors.
  • Overnight travel 15-25%; field and office work.

Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in Oahu, Hawaii who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. Location & Relocation

This position is based on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, and candidates are expected to relocate to Oahu to support our local utility customers, projects, and team. Responsibilities

The successful Distribution Engineering Supervisor will support the following activities with minimal oversight:

  • Lead team of 5-8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV mostly associated with programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports.
  • Project work may include grid hardening and reliability, substation optimization, joint use make ready and street light projects. Work packages will be developed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems.
  • Oversee day to day assignments for direct reports.
  • Technical lead for engineers/designers to develop construction work packages including engineering calculations and constructability concerns.
  • Train junior engineers and designers.
  • Work under Engineering Manager to maintain project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Train entry level designers and technicians.
  • Oversee onboarding and performance of direct reports.
  • Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
  • Ability to clearly communicate work progress, technical issues, and schedule with Client.
  • Comply with Leidos and Client Safety requirements as well as design and quality expectations.
  • Develop permitting documents for different AHJ's.
  • Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and 3rd party owners for joint-owned poles.
  • Travel to sites/Customer meetings as needed.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Perform reviews (QAQC) of work by other engineers for submittal to Clients.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of prior relevant experience is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with NESC Standards, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, and Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
  • Proven successful experience in designing distribution systems for OH, UG, or URD environments.
  • Experience with ESRI and GIS is a plus.
  • Experience with distribution design tools such as O-Calc and SAG10 is a must. BOUD, Pole Foreman, and Spida-Calc experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to review other engineer designs and detailed eye for errors.
  • Experience monitoring scopes and tracking others work progress.
  • Prior team leadership experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.
  • Overnight travel may be required (15-25% travel).
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments.
  • Ability to utilize personal vehicle.
Pay Range

Pay Range $73,450.00 - $132,775.00
