Job description

Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers in Southern Louisiana who are passionate about electric utility design engineering. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance of Southern Louisiana (New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette). The role involves ensuring high‑quality work for Leidos’ electric utility customers, with responsibilities including design engineering, quality control, client coordination, and field data collection.

Remote working is available, but travel to client sites throughout Louisiana is required as needed.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers; may also perform individual design tasks in addition to quality control efforts within the group.
  • Develop work packages for overhead (OH), underground (UG), underground radial distribution (URD), make‑ready, and street light projects using customer GIS and work management systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers and design leads on broad client issues including schedule adherence and team quality control; manage scope, schedule, and budget of work assigned.
  • Review engineering design packages with clients; perform functional tasks, planning, and/or customer follow‑up.
  • Perform scope analysis of work assigned and maintain schedule adherence to advocate client priorities.
  • Initiate continuous improvement to workflow processes that drive efficiency and high‑quality standards in client design deliverables.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and right‑of‑way (ROW) applications.
  • Be comfortable in both a field and office setting; the role may require customer‑site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages.
  • Be available for customer‑facing activities and/or meetings on an as‑needed basis (job‑related travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates).
Background Requirements
  • 2+ years of prior relevant experience is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; additional relevant experience or certifications may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Background in and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Some prior knowledge of structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations.
  • Ability to provide reliable transportation, as some customer‑related travel may be anticipated (job‑related travel will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
You Might Also Have Some Previous Experience With
  • Providing estimated costs, development of a bill of materials (BOM), calculating the CIAC.
  • MicroStation – performing electrical distribution design.
  • Work management software and job estimating software.
  • CAD tools.

Pay Range: $59,150.00 – $106,925.00
