Job summary

UCEMC is looking for a Distribution Engineer to support and enhance the electric distribution system. This role involves managing engineering projects and technical studies that aid in operational goals. The Distribution Engineer will collaborate closely with diverse teams to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our services.

Job Summary

The Distribution Engineer supports the Executive Vice President of Engineering Services in leading initiatives that strengthen the cooperative’s electric distribution system and support long‑range operational goals. The role includes routine and special engineering projects, technical studies, and highly analytical systems to help the cooperative operate effectively, plan wisely, and maintain strong reliability standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the cooperative’s GIS mapping and informational system.
  • Support and improve technically complex systems such as SCADA, outage management, metering and smart grid, and vehicle tracking.
  • Maintain the engineering model used for system studies.
  • Guide construction standards and inventory units.
  • Coordinate annual construction work plans for electric system improvements.
  • Assist with line extension design and staking needs.
  • Perform load studies and coordination.
  • Assist with power restoration efforts as required.
  • Collect, interpret, and provide complex engineering data to support planning and decision making.
  • Participate in safety meetings and comply with UCEMC safety practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering required; major in Power Engineering or experience in an electric utility preferred.
  • At least two years of electrical experience, preferably within an electric cooperative.
  • Professional Engineer designation desired.
  • Computer skills and CAD experience required, with knowledge of Power Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of ESRI‑based GIS mapping and AutoCAD software preferred.
  • Knowledge of RUS specifications and approved list of materials preferred.
  • Ability to understand and apply the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and OSHA rules.
  • Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision.
  • Valid Tennessee Class D driver’s license or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather, on uneven terrain, and around equipment, insects, and animals.
  • Availability to respond to call‑outs and work extra hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
