Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant distribution engineering or design experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial engineering preferred.
  • Experience with distribution projects from kickoff through design and customer interaction.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license; ability to travel as needed.
  • Willingness to perform field and office work; outdoor environments acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems.
  • Review client-provided work and assess scope requirements.
  • Perform structural analysis, conductor sags, tensions, and voltage drop calculations.
  • Provide support during construction and post-construction reviews for standards compliance.

We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to ensuring that every project, no matter how simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. You'll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is always maintained. If you join us in this role, you'll gain expertise in a variety of areas, including NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. This position has remote-working capabilities but the preference is for candidates to be located within a commutable distance of Allentown, PA metropolitan area (Eastern Pennsylvania) to support local utility clients as business needs require.

As a Distribution Engineer / Designer, you can expect to:
  • Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers
  • Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
  • Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements)
  • 2+ years of prior relevant experience is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred); additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with the execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design approved, including Customer interaction and Process documentation.
  • Experience with utility reliability projects.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency with the NESC.
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages.
  • Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license, as some local or regional travel is expected.

  • Previous QAQC experience
  • Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC
  • Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc
  • Experience with the Work Management System CREWS
  • 1 year or more of Relevant management or leadership experience

Pay Range

Pay Range: Pay Range $59,150.00 - $106,925.00 The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
