The role requires coordinating with field, engineering, construction and project management teams, reviewing drawings, and ensuring compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, and local standards. PE license preferred; bachelor's in Electrical Engineering required.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of overhead and underground distribution design.
• Knowledge of utility construction standards, electrical equipment, and power distribution principles.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GIS mapping, and utility design standards.
• Strong analytical, technical, communication, and project coordination skills.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

• Coordinate with Construction, Field Ops, Planning, Permitting, GIS, and PM teams.

Job description

We are seeking a Distribution Design Engineer to support the design and engineering of overhead and underground electric distribution systems from 4kV to 35kV. This role will be responsible for developing construction-ready designs, performing engineering analysis, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and supporting projects from initial design through construction, energization, and closeout.

The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of electric distribution systems, utility construction standards, and distribution design practices, along with the ability to work effectively with field, engineering, construction, and project management teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design overhead and underground electrical distribution systems ranging from 4kV to 35kV.
• Prepare construction packages, work orders, engineering drawings, equipment specifications, and related documentation for new construction and system upgrades.
• Design distribution feeders, service extensions, transformer installations, voltage conversions, and system improvement projects.
• Perform engineering calculations, including voltage drop, conductor sizing, equipment loading, and fault current analysis.
• Review customer load requests and determine infrastructure requirements for residential, commercial, industrial, and renewable energy customers.
• Coordinate with Construction, Field Operations, Planning, Permitting, GIS, and Project Management teams throughout project execution.
• Conduct field visits to verify existing conditions and support construction activities.
• Review contractor submittals, field changes, and as-built documentation.
• Support storm restoration, reliability improvement, and grid modernization initiatives.
• Ensure designs comply with NESC, NEC, IEEE, utility standards, and applicable local regulatory requirements.
• Support project commissioning, energization, and final project closeout.
