Location: Water and Wastewater Plants, 185 Violet Lane, Eagle, CO 81631

FSLA Status: Non-Exempt – hourly, eligible for overtime

Pre-Hire Requirements: Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and be insurable under Town standards. Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. Must live within forty-five (45) miles from Town of Eagle Water & Wastewater Facility located at 185 Violet Lane, Eagle, Colorado. Total travel time should exceed sixty (60) minutes at posted driving speeds. This position requires the passing of a pre-hire drug test, motor vehicle, and a criminal background check.

Job Summary: Primary assignment is maintaining and operating the town’s Water Distribution System and Wastewater Collection System. The Water Distribution System includes maintaining and operating booster pump stations, operating and maintaining pressure release vaults, maintaining, and fixing fire hydrants, maintaining water valves, fixing water leaks, water service taps, working with annual leak detection contractors, and assisting with water plant facilities and water tanks. The Wastewater Collections System includes jetting wastewater collection mains, wastewater manhole inspections, fixing wastewater leaks, wastewater service taps, working or managing annual camera and jet contractor, and assists with wastewater plant facilities. May also perform a variety of routine and special activities for maintenance within the Public Works Department as conditions warrant.

Essential Functions

• Responds to customer complaints and inquiries; responds to water main breaks and sewer backups and water pressure loss. Notify affected residences and businesses when services are interrupted.
• Maintains and operates the town’s Water Distribution System which includes 68-miles of water main, booster pump stations, pressure release vaults, fire hydrants, valves, air-vacs, water plant facilities, nine water tanks, and other appurtenances.
• Maintains and operates the town’s Wastewater Collection System which includes 39-miles of wastewater mains, manholes, etc.
• Locate town utilities include water, wastewater, storm sewer, irrigation, electricity, etc. for utility locates.
• Schedule and coordinate meter reading and installation activities with other Town departments, prepare and maintain meter reading books and records, and coordinate with Utility Billing Specialist to resolve complaints.
• Works with contractors, homeowners, other utility companies, etc.
• Manages and maintains regulatory compliance with Town’s collection system maintenance program and Back Flow Prevention and Cross Connection Control Program.
• May be required to serve on call outside of regularly scheduled work hours and work overtime as needed. On-call responsibilities will be shared among Water Plant Operators and Wastewater Plant Operators.
• Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, and timely manner, both verbally and in written format, when dealing with staff, citizens, customers and vendors with local, State, and Federal agencies, utility companies, elected officials, consultants, contractors, and developers.
• Assists with routine maintenance, including heavy equipment operations, asphalt maintenance, traffic signs, etc. within town rights-of-way as needed.

• Indoor environment - exposure to moderately quiet office environments with regulated temperatures.
• Outdoor environment – exposure to unfavorable weather conditions and noise levels on construction sites is often very loud.

• Will also travel to local offsite meetings after normal work hours and frequently required to visit work sites in inclement weather on unpaved or uneven terrain.

During on-site visits to operating construction sites

• Exposure to fumes and airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals, odors and hazards associated with equipment, machinery, moving mechanical parts; etc. can be expected.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a fulltime, benefits eligible position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Other hours to perform snowplow and other emergencies (water breaks, wastewater breaks, etc.) and support Special Events. This position may require the ability to provide on-call responses, which may require evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications: Education, Training and Certifications

• Requires 1-3 years related construction experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Trainee/Technician I: Possesses a Water Distribution Class 1 certification and a Wastewater Collection Class 1 certification. Trainees must obtain the required certifications within one year of hire.
• Technician II: Possesses a Water Distribution Class 2 certification and a Wastewater Collection Class 2 certification.
• Technician III: Possesses a Water Distribution Class 3 certification and a Wastewater Collection Class 3 certification.
• Technician IV: Possesses a Water Distribution Class 4 certification and a Wastewater Collection Class 4 certification.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred but not required.
• Valid Colorado Driver’s License and be insurable under Town standards.
