Job summary

Gamma is seeking a Software Engineer for Distributed Systems (Trust & Safety) in San Francisco to architect and scale the trust infrastructure for real-time content scanning, anomaly detection, and rate limiting across 70M+ users. You’ll work across databases, APIs, and event infrastructure to protect users while preserving Gamma’s creative freedom.

Qualifications

• 5+ years backend engineering experience
• Strong systems thinking and API design
• Proficiency in Node.js or Python and databases (PostgreSQL, Redis)
• Experience with event streaming systems (Redis, Kafka) and high-volume pipelines
• Hands-on experience with trust features like rate limiting and content detection

Responsibilities

• Own detection and prevention systems for fraud, abuse, and malicious content
• Design and build scalable trust infrastructure (rate limiting, content scanning, anomaly detection)
• Architect distributed systems, APIs, and high-volume event pipelines
• Define and evolve core data model and storage for trust and safety
• Build tools for internal teams to investigate and act on threats
• Leverage AI/LLM-based detection to counter AI-generated abuse
• Create automated triage/investigation workflows for scale
• Investigate and resolve complex security incidents
• Collaborate with engineering/product to balance security with UX
• Shape Gamma's long-term trust and safety strategy and roadmap
