Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking aDistributed Systems Engineer for the Analytical Database Platform to design, build, and operate large-scale data processes in Go. You will contribute to ClickHouse-based analytics, data delivery, and near real-time retrieval, collaborating with product and engineering teams worldwide.

The role emphasizes production readiness, observability, and on-call responsibilities, with compensation details varying by location.

Qualifications

• Three+ years of professional software engineering in backend, infrastructure, or distributed-data systems.
• Strong Go skills or substantial systems experience (Rust, C++) with ability to move to Go quickly.
• Experience operating production services: deployment, monitoring, capacity planning, incident response, debugging.
• Understanding of distributed-systems concepts: concurrency, fault tolerance, partitioning, data integrity.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate reliable distributed systems that process very large volumes of data.
• Develop and optimise backend services and data platform components, primarily in Go.
• Improve data integrity, delivery latency, query performance, availability, and operational efficiency.
• Build systems that handle failure safely through backpressure, retries, idempotency, replication, and graceful degradation.
• Define service-level objectives, monitor production health, plan capacity, and respond to incidents.
• Diagnose performance bottlenecks across ingestion, processing, storage, and retrieval.
