Job summary

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS in Tallahassee is seeking a Distributed Computer Systems Analyst to maintain and support desktop and local area network environments. You will install software, manage client workstations, and coordinate with Central Office IT staff.

The role requires CJIS experience, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to be on-call for emergencies. Some lifting and on-site reporting are expected at the Central Office location in Florida.

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License required; capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Provide desktop and network computer system support across multiple sites from Central Office in Tallahassee.
  • Plan, design, implement, and troubleshoot local client architectures and software.
  • Install and support network computers, backup, recovery, and issue resolution.
  • Assist with peripheral devices and software packages; maintain equipment inventory.

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in Tallahassee, FL in the Office of Information Technology.

The mission of the Office of Technology in the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is to provide innovative, reliable, and secure technology solutions that support the Department's operations and enhance its efficiency.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Job Duties
  • This position will be responsible for providing support for computer systems at multiple sites as part of the Department’s Central Office: staff responsibilities below apply to most computer equipment (including personal computers, midrange minicomputers, and the large mainframe computer), telecommunications and related software.
  • Responsible for planning, designing, implementing and troubleshooting the local client architecture including connecting personal computers to the local area network, installing client software products and maintaining documentation related to the personal computers connected to the environment, and troubleshooting problems.
  • Responsible for installation and support of network computers, including setup and loading of software; and performing the technical role of system manager including functions of backup, recovery, troubleshooting.
  • Assists with providing general support of peripheral devices such as, but not limited to, monitors, docks, printers, USB drives, and scanners.
  • Provides support for software packages including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office 365 v2016, Adobe products, terminal emulation software, etc.
  • Assists with the maintenance of inventory user issued IT equipment.
  • Assists other IT units, such as Field Staff, with issues as needed.
  • Provides after hours “on-call” support on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must have experience supporting desktop computer equipment in a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) environment.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work on-call, if needed, including during times of Emergencies or Disasters.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds multiple times.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed a Degree, Coursework, or Technical Certifications such as CompTIA® A+ Certification.
  • Experience with VoIP systems.
  • Experience with any software for tracking technical work, such as Cherwell, Service Now, or other IT related tracking systems.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
