Display Architect - Features and Technologies

San Francisco Bay Area, California, United States Hardware

The Display Hardware Technology Engineering organization is looking for a cross-functional display technology architect to bring to life new display features that will surprise and delight Apple customers.

Description

You will use your system design expertise to envision, define, architect, and implement complex next-generation display technologies that have direct and highly visible customer impact. In this interdisciplinary, highly technical, and customer-focused role, you will be collaborating with EE, software, firmware, system and silicon teams to architect and build solutions that span these domains. You will also engage with internal customer experience partners and the Pro Workflow team to better understand and serve customer requirements with your designs.

Responsibilities
  • Lead development of complex display features and subsystems spanning hardware, pixel pipeline, firmware, and software from concept through delivery
  • Define HW/FW/SW system architectures including interfaces and interactions, silicon definition, integration with other subsystems, display timing, communication flows, and programmables
  • Develop and author high-quality and thorough engineering requirements and specifications for cross-functional teams
  • Perform detailed engineering analysis and design in interdisciplinary teams to bridge the gap between theory and implementation
  • Conceptualize, investigate, and drive new display technologies and features through independent research, prototyping, modeling, and demos
  • Support design implementations and prototypes at the hardware, firmware, and software levels as well as in the factory
  • Define performance metrics and requirements considering power, performance, human perception, and customer experience requirements
  • Envision novel ideas, concepts, and applications that will propel our displays to new levels of quality and performance
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience
  • Experience with complex system design, including electrical hardware, firmware, and software components
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a related field with a minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience
  • Prior knowledge of display and touch hardware design, particularly with OLED
  • Expertise in firmware or software development
  • Prior experience in advanced system modeling
  • Strong electrical, computer, and software engineering fundamentals, with excellent mathematical and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to ‘speak the languages’ of hardware, software, firmware, and the customer
  • Excellent written skills for developing specifications, proposing and presenting solutions, and reporting data in a clear and concise way
  • A passion for delivering world-class display features to our customers
