Job summary

State of the Heart Recovery is seeking a Dispensing Nurse to support clients in an opioid treatment program. You will dispense methadone and other medications, monitor patient response, and document in the EHR with strict confidentiality and safety.

The role emphasizes collaboration with medical leadership, accuracy in dosing, and adherence to regulatory requirements within a structured clinical setting in New Mexico.

Qualifications

  • Active NM RN or LPN license required.
  • Experience in behavioral health, substance use, or medical clinics preferred.
  • Strong documentation, typing and data entry skills; confidentiality a must.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense methadone and other prescribed medications per orders and policies.
  • Monitor treatment response and report concerns promptly.
  • Perform patient assessments and document condition appropriately.
  • Document dosing and clinical interactions in EHR and Methasoft.
  • Maintain controlled substances counts and secure storage per DEA rules.
  • Collaborate with Medical Director and clinicians to support care.

Job description

Deliver Safe, Compassionate Medication Support in Recovery Care

At State of the Heart Recovery, the Dispensing Nurse plays a critical role in supporting clients receiving medication-assisted treatment through our Opioid Treatment Program. This position is responsible for the safe, accurate, and compassionate dispensing of methadone and other approved medications, monitoring client response, and maintaining complete and compliant medical documentation.

The Dispensing Nurse works collaboratively with the Medical Director, Physician, and Clinical Program Director to ensure medication protocols are followed, regulatory requirements are met, and clients receive respectful, professional care. This role requires strong attention to detail, comfort with electronic health record systems, and a commitment to confidentiality and patient safety.

What You Will Do
  • Dispense methadone and other prescribed medications in accordance with physician orders and clinic policies.
  • Monitor clients for treatment response, including signs of withdrawal, intoxication, or adverse reactions, and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Perform required patient assessments and document patient condition as appropriate.
  • Accurately document dosing, assessments, and clinical interactions in the Electronic Health Record and Methasoft system.
  • Maintain accurate counts, reconciliation, and secure storage of controlled substances in compliance with DEA and State Board of Pharmacy requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant medication dispensing area.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director, Physician, and Clinical Program Director to support coordinated medical care.
  • Participate in required staff training, quality improvement activities, and program meetings.
  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times.
  • Adapt to clinic schedules, dosing windows, and patient care needs.
  • Perform other nursing duties as assigned to support medical operations.

What You Will Bring
  • Current licensure in the State of New Mexico as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or medical clinic settings preferred.
  • Strong documentation, typing, and data entry skills; ten-key experience preferred.
  • Willingness to train in State of the Heart Recovery’s Electronic Health Record and medication management systems.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and strict confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication safety and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with medical and clinical teams.
