The Del Norte County Sheriff's Office is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Dispatcher. This position is classified as full-time.
This is a responsible position that serves to dispatch emergency and routine telecommunication messages to and from field personnel and law enforcement agencies and to perform clerical duties associated with the operations and activities of the Sheriff/Coroner’s Office. This classification is non-sworn position. Employees in this classification receive direct to limited supervision in the performance of clerical, technical and security duties at an entry to skilled level. Under general supervision, will receive calls from the public and will dispatch the proper personnel to the emergency situation. Will assist in either emergency 911 calls, non-emergency phone lines or in person. Employees in this classification must have strong ethical and honest values.
Dispatcher I is the entry level in the classification series. The entry level position is assigned specific duties which will increase experience and skills by assisting and participating in the activities associated with the dispatch function, additional duties are assigned as experience is acquired. After successful completion of required training, additional experience, and meeting requirements incumbents may be eligible for advancement in this series.
Dispatcher II is the journey level in this series and performs duties and tasks under minimal supervision. Employees who advance to this level must have successfully completed the required training and demonstrated skills and the ability to adequately fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Dispatcher III is the skilled level in this series and performs duties and tasks with minimal supervision except as new or unusual circumstances arise. Employees who advance to this level must have demonstrated the ability to work on a relatively independent basis in routine or emergency situations. This level may assist with training and oversee other dispatchers in a lead person capacity.
