Job summary

Hy-Vee seeks a Dishroom Clerk in the Market Grille to keep equipment, dishes, and work areas spotless and safe. You’ll support a fast-paced kitchen and help the team deliver great food and service.

In this on-site role, you’ll follow detailed instructions, handle basic counting and math tasks, and work well within a team. Prior kitchen or dishwashing experience is helpful but not required; motivation and reliability are valued.

Qualifications

• No education requirement; six months or less of similar or related work experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and provide prompt, friendly service
• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, and pans thoroughly and in a timely manner
• Keep the work area clean and organized while following safety guidelines
• Remove trash and maintain hygiene in the dish/garbage area
• Answer phones promptly and assist customers as needed
• Work with teammates to ensure a positive environment and customer satisfaction
• Assist in other store areas as needed and participate in special projects
• Maintain personal hygiene, dress standards, and store policies
• Arrive on time and report to work as scheduled

What You'll Do

No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every interaction a positive one


• Wash department equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, and pans thoroughly and consistently


• Handle food safely and ensure the work area is always clean and neat


• Remove trash in a timely manner and take department garbage to the compactor or designated area


• Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call


• Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment


• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned


• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines


• Report to work when scheduled and on time

Your Skills

To be successful, you'll need to be able to:

• Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables


• Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately


• Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needed orally or in writing


• Work effectively as part of a team to keep the kitchen clean and running smoothly

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Manager; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department Manager

Education and Experience

No education requirement; six months or less of similar or related work experience preferred

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas


• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation


• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment


• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards


• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment

This role is performed in a kitchen environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have exposure to noise, equipment movement hazards, cleaning chemicals or solvents, temperature extremes, and possible electrical hazards. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre employment drug screen.
