Job summary

Occidental College is seeking a Dishroom Assistant for Campus Dining. This 10-month, non-exempt, part-time position works 20-32 hours per week to support sanitation, dishwashing and routine cleaning in a busy campus kitchen and dining area.

Under supervision, you will follow health regulations, manage waste, and assist in maintaining safe, clean facilities. A high school diploma or GED and English proficiency are required; prior sanitation experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manages waste, compostables and recyclables across facilities.
  • Follows Health Department procedures for cleaning and sanitizing equipment.
  • Keeps floors, walls, ceilings and storage areas clean and sanitary.
  • Ensures safety of staff, guests, equipment and facilities at all times.
  • Provides customer service and assists with questions and requests.
  • Supports campus-wide events as needed.

Job Summary

Under the direction of thew Associate Director of Campus Dining,the Dishroom Assistant works in a team setting of Campus Diningsanitation staff and performs manual and machine ware-washing ofservice and preparation equipment. Sorts and removes trash,compostables and recyclables. Sweeps, mops and maintains floors andbaseboards. Cleans and maintains walls, ceilings, fixtures andequipment. Assists in ensuring that health code regulations arestrictly followed.

Job Duties
  • 40% - Properly washes, rinses and sanitizes all dishes,utensils and food storage and preparation equipment. Returnscompleted items to appropriate locations. Cleans and maintainssanitary floors, walls, ceiling and storage equipment throughoutfacilities. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Maintains waste management processes throughout kitchen,servery, dining hall and outside areas. Collects, sorts andproperly situates trash, compostables and recyclables for Campuscollection. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Applies and maintains proper Los Angeles County HealthDepartment procedures for cleaning and sanitizing equipment andfacilities. Actively participates in maintaining an A health coderating. Adheres to manufacturer’s proper chemical and cleaningsupplies usage and storage requirements. Handles only chemicalstrained to use. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Ensures staff, guest, food, equipment and facility safetyat all times. Performs all duties in a safe manner. Providesassistance needed to identify and prevent hazards. Uses propersafety signs and equipment. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Assists in prevention of losses, breakage & shortagesof equipment and furnishings throughout the facilities/Campus. -(Essential)
  • 5% - Provides customer service. Assists customers withquestions, problems and requests. Informs management of problems.Participates in a positive and cooperative work environment.Assists other team members as needed. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent combination ofeducation, training and experience.
  • Read, write and speak English.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and retain the required jobskills for service and sanitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with speed and efficiencyfollowing proper sanitation guidelines, and have basic knowledge ofhow to use cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and thorough;skilled at anticipating and preventing potential problems andhandling a wide variety of tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Strong commitment to a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, inwriting and electronically.
  • Effective interpersonal skills as evidenced in the ability tocollaborate with a variety of constituencies.
