Job summary

Merck & Co. seeks a Discovery Program Leader (DPL) to represent Nonclinical Drug Safety on discovery teams and review meetings, focusing on immunology and oncology across modalities from target ID to first-in-human GLP toxicity studies.

The DPL defines and oversees the NDS strategy, provides target risk assessments, and drives de-risking efforts while collaborating with NDS staff at other sites to select and develop new drug candidates.

Qualifications

• PhD, DVM, or MD degree or equivalent.
• 8+ years pharma non-clinical safety experience or as a safety rep on cross-functional teams.
• Ability to navigate cross-functional lines in a matrix organization.
• Excellent collaboration and communication across sites.

Responsibilities

• Represent NDS on discovery teams and governance reviews.
• Facilitate cross-functional lead optimization across multiple disease areas.
• Promote innovative thinking and act as a drug creator for programs.
• Identify and assess risks for targets and development candidates.
• May lead early development teams and contribute to GLP toxicology strategies.
