Macedonia Baptist Church in Alabama is seeking a Discipleship Pastor to cultivate and implement a disciple-making process that grows individuals and the church. The role focuses on leading discipleship pathways that begin with personal growth and extend to the faith community.

The Discipleship Pastor will oversee all discipleship ministries for adults, students, children and preschool, manage Community Groups, and recruit/train volunteer leaders while coordinating curricula and group launches

Qualifications

• Must be a God-called and ordained pastor.
• Typically 5 years of ministerial experience in a church setting.
• Master’s degree from an accredited seminary is preferred; candidates may be working toward seminary.
• Strong leadership and ability to work with paid staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Administer Macedonia’s Community Groups ministry, including leadership and training of officers and teachers, curriculum, and launching of new groups.

Primary Function –

At Macedonia, our process for discipleship encompasses leading people to exalt Christ personally & corporately, enjoy biblical community by sharing & serving, and by engaging the culture around us with the gospel. The Discipleship Pastor is responsible for cultivating pathways along this process that help people grow as disciples of Jesus.

Qualifications –

The Discipleship Pastor must reflect a healthy relationship with Jesus Christ, his own family, and the Body of Christ. He also must be a God-called and ordained pastor with the appropriate heart and gifting for church ministry. The Discipleship Pastor must have a suitable mix of education and experience to be qualified for the responsibilities. A general guide for experience would be 5 years of ministerial experience preferably in a church setting. A master’s degree from an accredited seminary would be the preferred level of education for this position. However, candidates may be considered who are working toward seminary education. The Discipleship Pastor will need to have demonstrated an ability and desire for leadership in a team environment. The Discipleship Pastor position demands yielding to a Christian disciple making process that begins with himself and extends to others around him.

Skills –

This position requires a high level of skill in communication and organization. The abilities to preach, teach, administrate, care, and lead well are all needed. Time management is also a significant skill for this position. The Discipleship Pastor needs to possess a substantial level of demonstrated skill with regard to age-appropriate group ministry in a church setting. A key element of this position is a requirement of a different skill set than leading one age-appropriate area within a discipleship ministry. The Discipleship Pastor will need to lead the leaders of each ministry area with skills including the ability to motivate both paid staff and volunteer ministry leaders, formulating and managing budgets, being competent with technology and a willingness to become fully functional within our church management system. Experience with both PC and Apple systems, Planning Center, and Pro-Presenter are beneficial.

Responsibilities –

The Discipleship Pastor serves as part of the pastoral leadership team alongside the Lead Pastor and Worship Pastor and shares in all aspects of care and leadership of the congregation.

He is responsible for the leadership of all discipleship ministries of the church. This includes but may not be limited to the areas of adults, college age, students, children, and preschool. The Discipleship Pastor is responsible for the administration of all aspects of Macedonia’s Community Groups ministry including the leadership & training of officers and teachers, curriculum, and launching of new groups. Age-appropriate discipleship ministry at Macedonia is done through Community Groups, Young Explorers (children’s worship), Team Kids (missions focused discipleship for children), Student Life (lifestyle discipleship for teens), and nursery. Each of these areas have volunteer ministry level leaders who manage teams of volunteers who teach and facilitate these ministries. Coordinating with ministers, administrators, and volunteer leaders is required.

Scope –

Discipleship Pastor at Macedonia is a full‑time position that reports directly to the Lead Pastor. The typical weekly schedule is Sunday through Thursday. Weekly staff huddles and monthly staff work sessions are held typically on Mondays and presence is mandatory. The Discipleship Pastor shall be present for Sunday and Wednesday activities weekly unless on vacation, sick or on a prior approved speaking engagement.
