Inter-American Development Bank is seeking an experienced civil engineer in Washington, DC to coordinate projects, analyze risk, and manage uncertainty for the Ready and Resilient Americas initiative and the DRM Action Plan. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to develop risk tools and monitor implementation.
The role involves supporting technical development of risk models, updating RiskHUB, and training staff and clients in probabilistic disaster risk analysis.

We are looking for an experienced, committed, and diligent civil engineer for project coordination, risk analysis and uncertainty management, to support the coordination of the Ready and Resilient Americas initiative (RRA) and the DRM Action Plan 2026-2030, and the development of a platform of risk calculation tools with a quantitative approach. You will provide technical support for monitoring and following up on the implementation of the RRA, coordinating with Bank specialists, clients, and external partners, and supporting the technical development of multi-hazard models for the risk assessment platform. You will also participate in managing and updating the RiskHUB website and community of practice.
You will be part of the multidisciplinary team of the Disaster Risk Management Unit, CSD/DRM, which is made up of specialists and expert consultants in various branches related to disaster risk management (economics, geology, engineering, architecture, environment, etc.). Among other purposes, the DRM Unit develops studies on disaster risks that serve as a basis for defining resilient public investment programs and projects. It also assists the Bank's clients in finding technical solutions for resilient engineering, including specific risk mitigation works.
Education: Master's degree in Civil engineering, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in research and analysis for the comprehensive management of disaster risk due to natural hazards, which includes probabilistic risk models, early warning systems and emergency management.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish, spoken and written, is required.
