Position Responsibilities

Ideal Support is currently seeking a Disability Support Worker to join our dynamic team. As a support worker, you will work closely with individuals with disabilities to help them achieve their goals and live their lives to the fullest.

The Key Worker is responsible for supporting people with:

  • Participation in preferred activities
  • Community involvement
  • Relationship building
  • Choice and control in all aspects of individual decision making
  • Developing desired skills

Participation in preferred activities, community involvement, relationship building, choice and control, and skill development are based on the premise that people with disabilities can:

  • Participate in activities irrespective of ability
  • Make informed choices

  • Communicate

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting participants with personal care needs
  • Supporting participants with activities of daily living such as cleaning or cooking
  • Performing home-based tasks such as meal preparation
  • Undertaking tasks outside the home such as shopping or recreation activities like playing sport or attending movies
  • Supporting a varied program of activities
  • Providing emotional support and compassion
  • Reporting incidents in a timely manner
  • Promoting and encouraging independence
  • Abiding by all policies and procedures
  • Communicating with families and carers
  • Reporting misconduct
  • Problem-solving behaviors of concern with staff
  • Developing relevant documentation for posting on signal and around housing
Accountabilities
  • Providing relevant supports as listed above
  • Maintaining an empowering environment for people with disabilities
  • Advocating for people with disabilities
  • Being creative and informed in developing means of communication with people with disabilities
  • Maintaining client records by recording support notes for each shift and other organizational documentation
  • Participating in meetings as required
  • Maintaining participants' confidentiality
  • Communicating openly and honestly
  • Maintaining OHS standards
  • Completing mandatory training
  • Reading and signing all policies and procedures
Employment Requirements
  • Current Level 2 First Aid
  • Current CPR
  • Working with Children Check
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence/Comprehensive Insurance
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module (Certificate of Completion)
  • Covid Vaccination Certification

  • A good understanding of the principles of NDIS and the Disability Act 2006
  • Clear communication and ability to be adaptable and professional
  • Reliability in attending shifts
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and implement feedback
