The Director will draft legislation, testify before bodies, and build coalitions while collaborating with federal and state partners. The position supports telework and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

  • At least eight years of legal experience.
  • Demonstrated managerial and leadership experience.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent judgment and strategic decision‑making skills.
  • Experience in voting rights policy and election law is preferred.
  • Active membership in good standing in DC or state residency for remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee state legislative and policy activities of the team, including assigning staff and coordinating bill tracking.
  • Identify policy priorities and priority states for advocacy and implement them.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with state and local partners.
  • Conduct legal research, analysis, writing, and advocacy in support of legislative and policy efforts.
  • Draft legislation, policy proposals, and legal advocacy materials and oversee their preparation by team members.
  • Conduct administrative advocacy with election officials and review public records requests.
  • Contribute to federal voting rights commentary as needed.
  • Represent CLC’s voting rights team to the media and external audiences.
  • Manage voting rights team members, including fellows and staff.
  • Travel as required.
