Job description

Forge ahead with WSB. WSB is hiring a Director of Transportation Engineering based in Idaho to lead and grow our transportation practice across Idaho and the West region. With the resources, expertise, and reputation of an established national engineering firm behind you, you’ll have the freedom to lead like an entrepreneur: strengthen relationships with ITD and local agencies, get to yes with clients, and build the team that delivers. WSB was founded on the understanding that culture drives results, and we’ve dedicated ourselves to the value of strong relationships, collaboration, and forward-thinking ideas. We’ve inspired each other to discover thoughtful and creative solutions that look beyond the needs of today to the opportunities of tomorrow. We invite you to forge ahead with us.

As Director, you will be WSB’s regional transportation leader in the West, and the go‑to relationship builder with the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), highway districts, cities, counties, and regional transportation partners. You will own business development, client relationships, and project delivery, turning trusted connections into revenue, backlog, and a high‑performing team. With proven systems and support already in place, your focus is on what you do best: building relationships, finding ways to say yes to clients, and growing the region.

What You Will Do
  • Lead WSB’s transportation practice across Idaho and the West region, setting regional strategy and growth priorities.
  • Grow transportation revenue by winning new work with ITD, highway districts, local agencies, and regional transportation partners.
  • Build and deepen long-term client relationships, positioning WSB as a trusted partner on Idaho’s highway, roadway, and multimodal programs.
  • Lead pursuits from first conversation to signed contract, including proposals, interviews, and negotiations.
  • Find creative paths to yes for clients, including state, federal, and grant funding for transportation projects.
  • Translate growth strategy into annual operating plans, team goals, and revenue targets.
  • Own the region’s financial performance, budgets, and resource planning.
  • Plan the work and hire the people to do it, leading workforce planning, recruiting, and compensation for your team.
  • Lead, coach, and develop project managers, team leaders, and transportation engineers.
  • Provide senior technical direction on transportation deliverables and serve as Engineer of Record on select projects.
  • Oversee multi-discipline projects from proposal through closeout, managing risk, schedule, quality, and compliance.
  • Represent WSB in industry and professional organizations across the region.
What You Will Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration; Idaho licensure preferred
  • 12 to 15 years of transportation engineering experience across planning, design, and delivery
  • Direct experience working with or for ITD, including familiarity with ITD standards, processes, and local agency projects
  • Experience with Idaho highway districts such as ACHD, or with LHTAC-administered projects, is a plus
  • A well-rounded transportation background spanning roadway, highway, and multimodal projects
  • A strong network across the Idaho transportation community and a proven record of relationship-driven business development
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and projects
  • Based in Idaho, or willing to relocate
