Invenergy Transmission is seeking a Director to lead the development of new transmission projects toward execution. You will guide diverse teams and external partners across engineering, grid planning, and regulatory workstreams to advance complex projects.

Job Description Position Overview

The Director, Transmission Development will lead the development of new transmission projects toward execution, oversee complex project proposals, help position the business for future growth, and advance Invenergy’s growing portfolio of transmission projects. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded leader who can guide direct reports, matrixed colleagues, and external partners across engineering, grid planning, financial analysis, environmental review, routing, and other disciplines toward successful project advancement. The role will also require the ability to drive results through senior leadership engagement, clear decision-making, and disciplined execution across multiple workstreams.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the identification, evaluation, development, and advancement of new transmission opportunities across multiple regions and business models.
  • Develop and execute project strategies that move transmission opportunities from early-stage identification through proposal development, stakeholder engagement, permitting, and execution.
  • Lead and align direct reports, matrixed internal subject matter experts, and external partners across engineering, grid planning, financial analysis, environmental review, routing, permitting, public affairs, regulatory, legal, and commercial workstreams.
  • Lead the preparation of complex transmission proposals, development plans, business cases, work scopes, contractor bids, and decision materials for senior leadership and external counterparties to support successful project outcomes.
  • Mentor and develop a team of direct reports, providing clear expectations, coaching, feedback, and opportunities for professional growth while supporting strong individual and team performance.
  • Represent Invenergy Transmission with utilities, customers, landowners, community leaders, local and state officials, Tribal Nations, regulators, industry participants, and other key stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with external counterparties, consultants, contractors, community stakeholders, and other organizations that support successful project development and long-term business growth.
  • Identify, manage, and communicate key project risks, including routing, permitting, stakeholder, interconnection, engineering, commercial, financial, schedule, and execution risks.
  • Synthesize technical, commercial, financial, legal, and market input into clear, actionable recommendations that support project strategy, development-stage investment decisions, and senior leadership alignment.
  • Drive project advancement according to budgets, schedules, milestones, development objectives, including management of internal resources and external technical, legal, engineering, environmental, routing, and public engagement support.
  • Monitor transmission market developments, competitor projects, policy and regulatory changes, and regional planning processes to identify new business opportunities and inform Invenergy Transmission’s growth strategy.
  • Supervise the effective handling of confidential, commercially sensitive, and project-specific information.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Economics, Engineering, Finance, or other relevant field.
  • 10 years of experience or more in transmission or energy project development, construction, or engineering.
  • Experience managing large projects and/or teams.
  • Experience with economic analysis of complex projects or businesses.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex priorities, budgets, schedules, and deadlines.
  • High degree of comfort with ambiguity; ability to effectively navigate uncertainty.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment while meeting deadlines and completing time‑sensitive projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and drive solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to succinctly communicate complex issues, recommendations, and decisions.
  • Experience managing external consultants, contractors, counsel, engineering firms, or development partners.
  • Familiarity with transmission planning, permitting, routing, interconnection, or regulatory approval processes.
  • Ability to prepare and present executive‑level recommendations, business cases, and decision materials.
  • Ability to use discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to support occasional travel to project, partner, or stakeholder locations as needed, anticipated <10% of the time.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with successful outcomes in FERC Order 1000 competitive transmission solicitations.
  • Experience with Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) planning processes.
  • Experience with large‑scale transmission infrastructure development.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex input from engineering, grid planning, legal, financial, and other subject matter experts into clear, actionable recommendations and compelling project proposals.

Base Pay 185,000.00 - 235,000.00 USD Annual Bonus: 30% - 40% The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills. In addition to base pay, the total annual compensation package may also include eligibility to participate in our bonus program(s) which are designed to reward individual and company performance.
