Job summary

Greater Austin YMCA is seeking a Director to lead the center’s daily operations, ensuring high-quality early learning experiences and strong family relationships. You will implement the Playing to Learn curriculum under the Executive Director and drive enrollment, staffing, and compliance.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Child Development with 5+ years in licensed childcare, supervision of at least two direct reports, and strong budgeting skills.

Qualifications

  • ECE3 category – Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or related field required.
  • Minimum of 9 college credits in business, programs, or administrative competencies.
  • At least five years of experience working in a licensed childcare setting.
  • Experience supervising at least two direct reports.
  • Knowledge of accreditation processes and administrative operations, including scheduling, time-off management, timesheets, and community relations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized, with experience leading compliance and quality initiatives.
  • Understanding of front-line operations in early childhood programs.
  • Proactive, forward-thinking, and solution-oriented.
  • Able to remain calm and effective under stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and budget management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the center's overall operations and performance to ensure high-quality early learning experiences.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing regulations, safety procedures, and program policies.
  • Develop and implement enrollment strategies to support center capacity and program sustainability.
  • Monitor enrollment trends, retention, and waitlist management for stability.
  • Oversee hiring processes and recruit qualified educators and staff.
  • Lead staff development and foster a collaborative culture for growth.
  • Supervise staff with coaching, feedback, and performance accountability.
  • Maintain staff credentials, training, and professional development requirements.
  • Ensure implementation of the Playing to Learn curriculum and high classroom quality.
  • Conduct classroom walkthroughs and observations to monitor quality of learning environments.
  • Oversee developmental documentation and assessment practices for quality.
  • Oversee incident reporting and risk management within the center.
  • Maintain strong relationships with families and address concerns via open communication.
  • Coordinate family engagement opportunities to strengthen partnerships.
  • Support community partnerships and represent the center in outreach.
  • Provide classroom coverage to maintain staff-to-child ratios.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
