If you want to do career‑defining work, you’ve come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact.

With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we’re shaping the future of fintech – and we’re just getting started.

The Role

Checkout.com is looking for a Director, Strategic Account Management to lead the strategy, performance and growth of a portfolio of our most critical clients.

This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced commercial operator who can build trusted merchant relationships, develop a high‑performing account management team and turn portfolio insight into sustainable growth. You will help Checkout.com become the partner of choice for strategic accounts through exceptional value, expertise and commitment, while setting the direction for account planning, execution and performance.

You will represent the voice of strategic clients across Checkout.com, influence senior internal stakeholders and bring together the right teams to solve complex challenges, unlock expansion opportunities and strengthen long‑term partnerships.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Portfolio strategy and growth: Own the strategy for a portfolio of strategic accounts. Anticipate long‑term merchant needs and identify opportunities to increase processing volume, net revenue, retention, share of wallet, product adoption and client value.

  • People leadership: Lead, coach and develop a team of Strategic Account Managers. Set clear expectations, support career development and build a culture of accountability, collaboration and high performance.

  • Commercial and operational ownership: Set portfolio objectives, forecasts and performance indicators. Use data and commercial judgement to create scalable ways of working across account planning, forecasting, escalation management and performance reviews.

  • Senior client engagement: Build trusted, multi‑level relationships with senior client stakeholders and functional leaders. Create strong senior‑level engagement, establish Checkout.com as a long‑term strategic partner and personally engage where relationships, risk or growth opportunities require additional leadership.

  • Strategic planning and governance: Set the standard for account plans, strategic business reviews and joint planning with merchants. Ensure priorities, complex challenges, risks and opportunities are aligned and actively managed across relevant regions and functions.

  • Cross‑functional leadership: Mobilise Product, Operations, Legal, Risk, Finance, Data Science and other teams around portfolio priorities. Lead coordinated responses to complex merchant challenges, remove internal blockers and improve the end‑to‑end client experience.

  • Product, market and business influence: Bring structured client insight and market intelligence into Checkout.com. Influence product and service priorities by connecting client needs, payments trends, competitive dynamics and regulatory developments to actionable recommendations.

  • Leadership contribution: Help shape how Checkout.com manages and grows its most important client relationships, strengthens its position as a partner of choice and scales a consistent, high‑value merchant experience.

What We’re Looking For
  • Significant experience leading strategic or enterprise account management, customer success or commercial teams in a B2B environment, ideally within FinTech, payments, technology or another complex, high‑growth industry.

  • A proven track record of growing strategic accounts through retention, expansion, product adoption and long‑term relationship development.

  • Experience hiring, coaching and developing high‑performing teams, with a clear and inclusive leadership style.

  • Strong commercial acumen, including the ability to set strategy, manage forecasts, interpret performance data and deliver against ambitious objectives.

  • Demonstrable experience building senior‑level engagement with internal and external stakeholders and leading complex commercial discussions.

  • Proven ability to build and leverage relationships across strategic customers, partners and the wider payments ecosystem, creating opportunities for insight, collaboration and portfolio growth.

  • The ability to move between strategic direction and detailed execution, while maintaining focus across multiple accounts, priorities and workstreams.

  • Excellent judgement, problem‑solving and influencing skills, with the confidence to lead through ambiguity and manage risk.

  • Strong knowledge of e‑commerce, payments technologies, market dynamics and the trends shaping the industry.
