Symbiotic Services seeks an experienced Director of State Government Affairs to lead public policy strategies across multiple U.S. states. The role focuses on proactive leadership, strategic planning, and influencing legislators and regulators to support business objectives.

You will manage external consultants, build relationships with officials and trade associations, monitor policy developments, and report insights to senior leadership while traveling up to 30% for events and meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
• 7+ years in government affairs, lobbying, or public policy.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. state and local processes.
• Strong planning, public speaking, analysis, and relationship skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Teams.
• Ability to explain complex issues to varied audiences and lead cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to travel domestically up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Lead regional state and local government affairs strategy.
• Liaise with elected officials, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders.
• Monitor, analyze, and respond to policy developments.
• Manage external consultants and align with company priorities.
• Develop responses to proposed legislation or regulations.
• Provide reports and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
• Build relationships with local political organizations and advocacy groups.
• Represent the company in industry coalitions and trade associations.
• Support event planning, budget forecasting, and internal comms.
• Define and measure KPIs related to government affairs.
