Varda Space Industries in El Segundo, CA, seeks a Director of Payload Systems Integration & Test to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for end-to-end mission success of diverse payloads, including inertial, RF, optical sensors, and pharmaceutical processing payloads.

You will own payload interfaces, plan and execute integration and test campaigns, coordinate in-orbit operations, and ensure safe recovery of data and hardware while guiding workflows and the hosted payload

Qualifications

• 10+ years of spacecraft or aerospace hardware experience spanning integration, test, and mission execution.
• Ability to turn poorly-defined problems into executable plans, interfaces, and requirements.
• Hands-on experience planning and running environmental qualification campaigns on flight hardware.
• Strong interface engineering background: ICDs, requirements flow-down, interface verification across boundaries.
• Experience leading engineers, including hiring and developing early-career talent.
• Breadth across mechanical, thermal, fluidic, electrical, and software interfaces with depth as backstop.
• Cleanroom operations and contamination control.
• Customer-facing experience: scoping work, managing schedules, setting expectations.

Responsabilités

• Build and lead the Payload Systems Integration & Test team, hiring and developing engineers.
• Own integration and test for pharma payloads: test planning, verification, contamination control, and environmental qualification.
• Collaborate with payload design teams to influence testability early in the cycle.
• Define how to meet ambiguous mission objectives with the existing platform or scope new development.
• Define payload interfaces and ICDs; manage interface verification and documentation.
• Plan and execute campaigns across both production lines, including verification and environmental tests.
• Coordinate with Vehicle Integration & Test to share practices while maintaining distinct workflows.
• Support mission management to meet milestones and maintain customer commitments.
• Support payload operations through flight, reentry, and recovery.
• Develop and mature standard workflows and cleanroom practices to scale with cadence.
