Job summary

Briggs & Stratton, LLC. is seeking a Director Sourcing to lead global direct and indirect material sourcing and to shape supplier strategies for cost, quality, and innovation.

You will negotiate with suppliers, drive supplier development, and guide lean sourcing programs across a multi-billion dollar spend. The role requires twelve years in sourcing/purchasing, SAP experience, CPIM preferred, and strong leadership with ability to present to senior executives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum twelve years experience in sourcing, purchasing or supply chain management.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial suppliers, low cost country sourcing, contract manufacturing and TCO models.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and supplier development.
  • Leadership skills and ability to present to senior executives; travel up to 10–15%.

Responsibilities

  • Direct global sourcing of direct and indirect materials and services.
  • Develop supplier segmentation and sourcing strategies for cost, quality, and innovation.
  • Lead negotiations and select suppliers; manage supplier development.
  • Implement lean supply chains and identify low-cost country opportunities.
  • Maintain global SOPs for Sourcing and Purchasing; oversee supplier audits.
  • Prepare budgets and forecast purchase price variance and cost reductions.
  • Interact with CFO, presidents, and major suppliers; support AI and continuous improvement projects.
  • Direct work of managers and professionals; ensure supplier quality system compliance.

Job description

As a Director Sourcing your goal is to direct the global sourcing of direct and indirect materials and services for the company. You'll also establish sourcing and supplier segmentation strategy for the company to achieve a competitive advantage from the supply base in cost, quality, delivery and innovation.

You will do this by:
  • Developing strategies across thousands of suppliers and millions of manufacturing Bill of Material components while working with purchasing teams to leverage spend
  • Leading development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to improve sourcing, purchasing and and contract manufacturing processes
  • Serving as lead negotiator for the company and identifying, qualifying and selecting suppliers
  • Implementing lean supply chains and identifying low cost country sourcing opportunities
  • Maintaining global standard operating procedures for the Sourcing and Purchasing functions
  • Overseeing supplier audits to assess financial wellness, social responsibility, trade compliance and quality processes to meet international standards
  • Preparing annual budgets and providing guidance for key commodities and annual purchase price variance and cost reduction forecasts
  • Interacting regularly with the CFO, Division Presidents and top executives at major suppliers
  • Supporting continuous improvement/artificial intelligence (AI) projects to maintain capable sourcing, purchasing and contract manufacturing processes
  • Supporting supplier development and ensures all suppliers implement the company's supplier quality system
  • Engaging in supply continuity issues as an escalation point
  • Providing analysis and recommendations for low cost country suppliers to include a comprehensive assessment of economic trends, risks and opportunities
  • Directing the work of groups of employees (leads through managers and other professionals)

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field OR equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum twelve years experience in sourcing, purchasing or supply chain management
  • Strong knowledge of industrial suppliers and supply chains and practical experience with low cost country sourcing strategies and execution, contract manufacturing and total cost of ownership models
  • Deep knowledge of Sourcing, Purchasing, Commodity Management, negotiation strategies and techniques, supplier quality and supplier relationship development
  • Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning systems (SAP Preferred)
  • APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) preferred
  • Proven leadership and motivational skills
  • Organized, flexible and easily adaptable to changing conditions; ability to adapt to different cultures
  • Ability to execute decisions and actions after consideration of both Company and Business Unit objectives; ability to make confident, fact-based decisions balancing risk
  • Ability to work well in high pressure situations in order to meet deadlines
  • Expertise in delivering change programs to switch suppliers to achieve lower cost, improved service while maintaining supply continuity
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and delivering presentations to senior executives to include CEO, CFO and Division Presidents
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location
  • Ability to travel up to 10-15%
