We seek a Director of Engineering for our Consumer Clarity team at Ethoca. You will lead multiple initiatives exploring modern, data-heavy solutions within our cloud-based technology landscape, providing transaction enrichment, dispute prevention, subscription management, and digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead development and implementation of cross-department initiatives, working with business and technical partners to identify opportunities and assess risks.
2. Coach and oversee a diverse engineering team, planning and executing goals.
3. Foster innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
4. Provide strategic leadership for applications, systems, and development methodologies.
5. Develop business cases and scenario plans for new initiatives.
6. Drive architectural design, development, and scaling of applications and services.
7. Collaborate with scrum/delivery teams to improve processes and mitigate risks.
8. Engage in architecture and code development, ensuring high-quality, secure, modular code.
9. Design technology roadmaps focusing on performance, security, and cost efficiency.
10. Identify and resolve potential problems proactively, planning deployments to minimize impact.
11. Optimize system performance and support architecture and engineering efforts.
12. Contribute to designing scalable, fault-tolerant cloud systems.
13. Build strong cross-functional relationships to ensure alignment with business needs.
14. Stay current with emerging technologies and provide technical guidance.
15. Evaluate new technologies through proofs of concept and support project scoping and planning.
16. Mitigate risks related to solution architecture and design.
17. Keep up with industry trends through self-study, blogs, meetups, and conferences.
18. Support operational activities, including capacity planning, launch reviews, and system monitoring.
19. Automate and advocate for reliability improvements, practicing blameless postmortems.
20. Communicate technical issues and solutions effectively to stakeholders.
21. Develop resilient integration solutions meeting high security and quality standards.
22. Set priorities and drive deliverables within global domains, engaging with the technical community.

All About You

• Experience leading teams working with Spring Boot, Java, RESTful services, microservices, and cloud-native development.
• Deep understanding of software design, clean code, and best practices.
• Proven microservices architecture design and deployment experience.
• Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Knowledge of TDD, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Mentoring experience and leadership in engineering teams.
• Agile development experience, including Scrum or Kanban.
• Knowledge of front-end frameworks like ReactJS.
• Experience with Big Data frameworks (Snowflake, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, container orchestration.
• Understanding of AI/ML models integrated into backend systems.
• Strong communication skills and stakeholder influence.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
