Job summary

Visa is seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead and scale engineering teams within the VERA organization. This role focuses on delivering secure, scalable fintech platforms and fostering an inclusive engineering culture.

You will collaborate with Product, Architecture, Security, Risk, and Compliance to establish best practices, drive Agile/DevSecOps, and ensure high standards of quality and regulatory compliance. Offices are in Bellevue, WA with a hybrid schedule.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree, OR 13+ years.
• Experience leading software engineering teams in fintech or regulated environments is preferred.

Job Description

Visa is seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead and scale high‑performing engineering teams within the VERA organization. This people leadership role is responsible for driving the delivery of secure, scalable, and resilient fintech platforms while fostering an inclusive, innovative engineering culture.

You will partner closely with Product, Architecture, Security, Risk, and Compliance leaders to deliver business‑critical solutions, establish engineering best practices, and develop top engineering talent. This role will drive adoption of Agile, DevSecOps, cloud‑native technologies, and responsible AI‑enabled development practices while ensuring solutions meet Visa's high standards for quality, security, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree, OR
• 13+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience.
• 3 to 5 years of experience leading software engineering teams in fintech, payments, banking, or other regulated industries.
• Experience managing direct reports and developing engineering talent.
• Strong background in enterprise application development, architecture, and system design.
• Experience with Agile delivery, DevSecOps, CI/CD, testing automation, and cloud‑native technologies.
• Experience building and supporting enterprise‑scale web services and distributed systems.
• Experience with container‑based technologies and modern software development practices.
• Strong stakeholder management and cross‑functional leadership skills.
• Experience with payments, financial services, or banking technologies preferred.
• Familiarity with Generative AI tools and AI‑assisted software development practices.

The estimated salary range for this position is $186,800.00 to $299,200.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job‑related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.

This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
