Job summary

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking a Director of the Single-Molecule Imaging Center to lead an interdisciplinary team and advance single-molecule research within the Department of Structural Biology.

The ideal candidate will design hardware and software solutions, guide collaborations, and mentor researchers to translate discoveries into improved child survival. The role spans instrument innovation, data management, and community leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree is required.
• 10+ years of experience in a relevant technical field with a Bachelor’s degree.
• 5+ years of experience with a PhD or higher in leadership roles preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct Center activity daily to ensure staff are efficiently tasked, instruments functioning and data managed.
• Lead planning and implementation of experimental strategies and next-gen instruments to stay at the frontier.
• Oversee software tool development for instrument control, data analysis, and project management.
• Lead high-impact collaborations with St. Jude laboratories to leverage single-molecule methods for diverse biological systems.
• Lead internal projects advancing methods, including new instrumentation, surface chemistry, fluorophore engineering, microfluidics, camera tech, software and analytics.
• Establish policies to maximize Center resources and keep instruments performing optimally.
• Manage SMC staff with diverse technical backgrounds.
• Participate in seminars/conferences to present findings, stay current, disseminate knowledge and recruit talent.
